A serious incident has been recorded in Besançon, France, where a 36-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment. According to French media, it was her 50-year-old partner who notified the emergency services, accompanied by his daughter. He is believed to be the last person to see the woman alive.
The man was taken to the police station and questioned, but denied any involvement in his partner's death. Meanwhile, the Besançon prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into "murder of the wife/partner."
According to preliminary investigations, the victim showed signs of asphyxia syndrome, which could have been caused either by taking medications or by the intervention of another person.
Authorities say there were no signs of violence, blood or traces of a struggle on her body. Investigators have only noticed a small mark on her neck, which is not considered conclusive evidence at this time.
Media reports that the victim's partner had previously been convicted of domestic violence against her, however, there was no restraining order against him for contact with the woman.
The autopsy and toxicology tests, scheduled to be performed on Thursday, are expected to shed light on the exact causes of the 36-year-old's death.
