A 24-year-old Albanian was arrested by the Italian police as soon as he arrived at Catania airport from Albania, where he had gone for study reasons.

Rafaelo Beqaj was arrested by the police on charges of aggravated street murder. Border police officers carried out the house arrest order issued by the investigating judge.

The serious event happened around 3 o'clock on December 18 last year in Acireale. The Albanian was driving an Audi Q8 when he hit a 16-year-old man who was riding a scooter.

The car with the Albanian young man driving it, going against the traffic and at high speed from Corso Italia, collided violently with the scooter driven by the minor.

The latter, who had his helmet on, was thrown a few meters away from the crash site and died instantly due to his injuries.

The police have reconstructed the dynamics of the accident and the responsibilities of the persons involved, finding that there are serious indications of guilt towards the Albanian citizen.
