50 people have been arrested by the Tirana Police in the first 3 months of 2023, as part of groups that sell and distribute narcotics in bars and schools.

The extent of criminal activity in the vicinity of educational institutions has also become a problem for the police.

"Mainly in the high schools of Tirana, the narcotic substance cannabis sativa is mostly used, not hard drugs. The subjects banned recently were exactly distributors of this narcotic substance. A good part of these people have been part of our investigations before, but it was not possible to prove them before", says Arbër Zemani, head of the narcotics and traffic investigation sector, for TV Klan.  

But in addition to school premises, the sale of drugs is also widespread in other environments. 6 are the areas identified by the police as the hottest in Tirana.

"It has always been and remains the area of ​​the former block, the suburb areas such as Kombinati, the former United School, Ali Demi, Lapraka".

In addition to traditional drugs, the narcotics sector has also recently evidenced the use of synthetic narcotics.

"Recently, the use of synthetic drugs such as ecstasy, LCD, MDMA, which are quite dangerous due to the very fact that they are produced in a laboratory, has increased significantly. They have a lower cost than hard drugs like heroin and cocaine."

The most recent case of the distribution of synthetic drugs was struck a few weeks ago where 3 young men were arrested by the police and during the search they found 1007 ecstasy tablets ready for sale.
