Almost a week ago, Voxnews.al brought to readers an extended article on the responsibilities of customs in connection with the scandal of the export of over 800 tons of suspected toxic substances, which are suspected to have passed through the Port of Durrës with forged papers.

Between the lines, Voxnews.al also cited the responsibilities of the head of customs of Durrës, as well as of other senior customs officials, both of its local directorate in Durrës, as well as in the ranks of the central directorate.

Part of the information obtained from reliable sources, Voxnews.al published in the article dated August 29, while other information that has reached us these days suggests that the central operative figure of customs in this scheme of export of suspected toxic substances , but also in other previous cases is Klodian Çani, currently director of the Directorate of Information in customs.

According to sources, the position as head of the Information Directorate for Klodian Çanin serves only as a camouflage and a springboard to do what he knows how to do best, organizing and coordinating smuggling, evading controls, or passing shipments with forged documents. as in the case of Kurum's suspected toxic substances.

Sources claim that Çani is the 'contact' person for groups and businesses that want to import or export contraband goods. Voxnews.al cannot confirm whether Klodian Çani had a role and what his role was in the case of Kurum's suspected toxic substances.

But, what Voxnews.al can bring to the reader is the rich CV of Klodian Çani with achievements in the customs sector, where he started his career years ago as a simple customs officer and then quickly climbed the career ladder, even why he was investigated and in one case even suspended.

In 2015, Klodian Çani served at Kakavija customs as shift manager. At that time, he and his subordinates on duty were suspended from duty after allowing a truck to pass without customs clearance.

The prosecution's investigations at that time revealed that it was not a sporadic case, but a genuine smuggling activity where the role of Klodian Çani was essential. The prosecution's investigation revealed that in the months of November-December 2014 alone, there were eight cases when trucks with goods were smuggled from Greece to Albania, avoiding millions of euros in taxes.

The Greek customs documents at that time, provided by Voxnews.al, show that in only one case, the value of goods imported from Greece to Albania was estimated at approximately 15 million euros. It is a shipment of cigarettes and alcohol, both of which are subject to excise duty. Only the excise duty avoided in this case, according to rough estimates, amounts to over 1 million euros.

However, even after these investigations, Klodian Çani, as if by magic, settled his accounts with justice and returned to duty in a post at the customs of Tirana.
